The Office of the General Counsel (GCO) represents Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees and Provides Legal Services to the University, the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation, Inc., and the Florida Gulf Coast University Financing Corporation.
Attorney Assignments
All matters requiring legal advice or legal action relating to University business should be referred to the Office of the General Counsel. Our attorneys have expertise in many areas of law, including those impacting higher education. We encourage you to contact us if you are considering an endeavor which may have a legal component, or if you are contemplating the creation of or modification to a regulation or policy. Early identification of legal considerations through the proper and prompt involvement of the legal staff usually helps projects and endeavors proceed more efficiently.

Mission
The mission of the Office of the General Counsel is to support the strategic plan of Florida Gulf Coast University by providing legal services to the University community and its direct support organizations. Such services will be provided proactively when possible and will aid in establishing principles to facilitate the fulfillment of University-wide goals. Legal services provided through the General Counsel’s Office include assistance with: contract review and other commercial activities, interlocal agreements, student disciplinary issues, the development of policies and regulations, and potential adversarial proceedings (judicial or administrative).
