It starts with admitting students who view FGCU as their first choice, followed by creating a strong sense of belonging for students so they can connect immediately to campus through vibrant student life programs. Welcome to the Fall 2024 Semester!

As stated in our mission, FGCU is a transformative, learner-centered institution dedicated to student success.

As faculty and instructors begin the new academic year, we have created a series of “welcome back” videos that include highlights of all the wraparound services that are available to students. At FGCU, we intend to engender a powerful sense of belonging for students so they can connect immediately to campus through vibrant student-life programs. It is hard to believe that the Enrollment Management Unit at FGCU is now 5 years old!

Through collaborations with so many faculty and staff on-campus as well as our community partners, we have institutionalized best practices to attract, recruit, admit, retain and graduate students. We are now able to offer support and strategy to academic programs who want to grow their entering classes of FTIC, Transfers, Non-Traditional, International, and Graduate students.

The Student Financial, Enrollment & Business Services unit is dedicated to fostering student success by providing efficient and timely support in financial aid, scholarships, enrollment, retention, graduation and business services. Our team leverages innovative technology and exceptional customer service to assist students in every step of their academic journey.

Whether you are a student, family member, faculty or staff, we are here to help you make your experience at FGCU the best it can be. Conveniently located on the first Floor of McTarnaghan Hall, our center serves as a one-stop destination for a wide range of services, including:
- Financial Aid & Scholarships
- Retention & Graduation Services
- Scholarships
- Enrollment Services Center (Eagle ID cards, meal memberships, parking, registration, transcripts, and student account services)
No appointment is necessary. Students can simply walk in anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to speak with a knowledgeable staff member and get the answers they need.

A great resource to support our faculty and students is our Retention & Graduation Services area. Through its Early Alert system, instructors can notify the Retention and Graduation Services office of potential issues students are facing, so we can intervene early and effectively. The Early Alert program (video below) is a collaborative effort by faculty and staff to provide proactive academic outreach early within the semester and to empower students to engage, persist and graduate in a timely manner. We encourage all faculty to utilize this valuable resource and submit an Early Alert for the following:
- High rate of absenteeism
- Habitual tardiness
- Failure to turn in assignments on time or at all
- Missed tests
- Low quiz/test performance
- Failure to access Canvas

FGCU Campus Food Pantry - 9.4.24

The Campus Food Pantry helps students who are genuinely in need of food assistance. Currently enrolled FGCU students who are experiencing food insecurity, (the state of, or risk of, being unable to provide food to oneself due to financial circumstances beyond their control), can visit the pantry up to once per week.

The process for receiving an emergency supply of food is simple. Bring grocery bags or a backpack to carry food items to the Campus Food Pantry in Modular 4, Room 32, Parking Lot 7. You can visit the pantry Monday through Friday during the following hours:
- Monday: noon – 5 p.m.
- Tuesday: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Wednesday: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Thursday: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Friday: noon – 5 p.m.
*Summer hours of operation may vary, and university closures will affect hours of operation.

Upon arrival, students will be asked to swipe their valid FGCU Eagle ID and sign a Campus Food Pantry recipient agreement.

Volunteers Needed for Eagle Expo Open House- Service Learning Hours Available - 10.14.24

Dear FGCU Students,

The fall 2024 Eagle EXPO Open House takes place Saturday, October 19, and student volunteers are needed to help the day run smoothly at the campus-wide event.

Volunteers are needed to help the Office of Admissions from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. to assist visitors throughout the day, including directing people from one location to another, greeting visitors and tracking participant attendance. This is a great opportunity for FGCU students to earn Service-Learning Hours.

Students who are interested can fill out this volunteer registration form.

Volunteers who complete this form will be assigned a specific volunteer task at Eagle EXPO. Thank you for your support with this important event. Please direct questions to Tami Tassler at ttassler@fgcu.edu.

As we continue to collaborate on our journey to excellence, I want to share some important updates regarding changes within Student Success & Enrollment Management (SSEM). To better align our programs and services with the university’s strategic plan and the student success plan, Interim Provost Barringer and I are working together to optimize both existing and new resources as we innovate for success.

First, I’m pleased to announce that Ney Arias has taken on the role of director for First-Year Seminar. Many of you are familiar with his contributions to fostering collaboration across divisions to enhance first-year student success. First-Year Seminars are recognized by American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) as a high-impact practice and are central to integrating students into the academic culture of FGCU. In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of seminar sections offered. Recent collaborations between SSEM and Academic Affairs have led to more integrated First-Year Seminar courses (including the Student Life Skills course, SLS 1410) and content. Ney’s leadership will be crucial in strengthening these alignments with our academic colleges and schools as we work to achieve Goal 2 of the university’s strategic plan to have all students participate in at least two high-impact practices.

Second, the university received funding through the 2024 Legislative Budget Request to expand the Retention & Graduation Services Department. This area serves as the central hub for managing Early Alerts. As faculty increasingly integrate this system into their courses, it’s clear that we need to expand our support structures. The new office will be led by a senior director, with a national search for this position to be announced soon. This role will unify the work of the First-Year Experience and retention-related programs while broadening our focus to support all students throughout their journey at FGCU. Additionally, with the upcoming launch of our new student success software tool, Slate for Student Success, this is the ideal time to build a team dedicated to providing comprehensive support services and transition programs. This office will report to Dr. Eric Tack, associate vice president, leading the Academic Engagement unit within SSEM.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone in SSEM who provided wrap-around services to complement the work of our world-class faculty. I also want to thank Jorge Lopez, associate vice president, and his team for their exceptional work over the past three years in building the structure that will now support a fully robust case management approach to graduation and retention efforts. Their hard work has positioned us to fully embrace this opportunity.

Dear Colleagues,

Did you know FGCU is one of only two public universities to have a service-learning graduation requirement for all undergraduate students? As a university, we rely on the Office of Service-Learning & Civic Engagement to guide our university’s efforts in making this unique requirement as beneficial as possible for our students, faculty and nonprofit and government agency partners.

True service-learning is the process of applying classroom content while filling real needs in the community. It’s even listed as a high-impact practice through the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U). Through the integration of service-learning in as many courses as possible, students not only enhance classroom learning; they also confirm or explore their choice of major, achieve career readiness skills, gain a deeper understanding of their potential and explore passion areas.
