National Scholarships 

Gilman Scholarship

  • For Pell Grant recipients interested in studying or interning abroad 
  • Up to $5,000 a semester
  • Minimum program length 4 weeks 

Boren Undergraduate Scholarship

  • For students interested in studying in non-popular countries
  • For students interested in studying new uncommon languages 
  • Up to $20,000

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

  • Awards based on Merit
  • Amounts range from $500 to $5,000, based on relative need of selected scholars
  • Deadline: Depends on when student chooses to go abroad

Fulbright Scholarship

  • For recent graduates and graduate students
  • Provides funding for one year studying, researching, or teaching abroad

Marshall Scholarship

  • For American students to study at the graduate level in the United Kingdom
  • Up to two years, all expenses paid study
  • 3.7 GPA required

Fund for Education Abroad

  • For United States citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level
  • Minimum program length 4 weeks
  • Awards up to $10,000 

Freeman Asia Scholarship  

  • Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, with demonstrated financial need 
  • Plan to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia for at least 8 weeks (summer) or 12 weeks (fall/spring)
  • Award amounts range from $3000-7000 depending on length of study. 

Critical Language Scholarship for Intensive Summer Institute

  • U.S. citizens the opportunity to participate in beginning, intermediate, and advanced level intensive language programs during the summer at American Overseas Research Centers.

NOTE: This scholarship is only for students studying abroad on CLS Programs; it cannot be applied towards other types of study abroad.

Diversity Abroad Minority/Low-Income Scholarships

Diversity Abroad is an organization dedicated to helping minority, under-represented and low-income students to find international opportunities. They offer several scholarships, and partner with other organizations offering resources to the students they seek to serve. You can find their scholarship and others listed on their website.

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships

The Rotary Foundation offers several scholarships and grants that can be applied to study abroad, especially for those students that intend to focus on community service projects abroad. Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant for France

The Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant’s goal is to help students discover France. The grant is open to undergraduate students who will be studying at a French university. The grant provides up to a $2,500 stipend per selected applicant. For additional information about the application process and deadlines, please visit the Benjamin Franklin Travel Grant website. DAAD (Deutsher Akademischer Austausch Dienst/German Academic Exchange Service)

DAAD offers funding for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and researchers to study in Germany. Undergraduate opportunities include scholarships funding study, thesis research and/or internships in any academic field. Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan

Sponsored by the Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ), Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan provides scholarship assistance of $2,500 to students on semester-long programs, and $4000 to students on academic-year programs. Additional information about the scholarship and its application deadlines can be found on the AATJ website.

Program Provider Scholarships

Scholarships offered by provider organizations for participants going on their programs:  

  • TEAN Abroad
    • TEAN provides numerous scholarships, including an annual full ride scholarship, need- and merit-based scholarships, diversity scholarships, even a photography scholarship, plus others
  • Athena 
    • Students studying abroad with Athena have access to 5 scholarships depending on program

  • USAC
    • USAC offers many scholarships unique to all degree seeking students 
    • Awards are between $500-$1,000 
  • IFSA Butler
    •  Need-based and factor in any additional cost your study abroad program might have over home school tuition
    • Awards are $500 for summer programs, $1,500 for semester programs and $2,500 for full year programs
  • Center for International Studies (CIS)
    • CIS scholarships are available to students who will blog while traveling, by journal, photos, or video.
    • CIS offers $100 off programs when signing up early (Early Bird Grant).
    • CIS also offers grants for students who recruit other students, and to returning students. 
  • International Studies Abroad (ISA)
    • ISA offers an automatic $200 discount for FGCU Students participating in ISA programs.
    • FGCU students are also eligible for scholarships that ISA offers personally, and through host universities.
  • Academic Programs International (API)
    • API offers a wide range of scholarships, up to $1000 per student participating in an API program.
    • There are scholarships for all applicants, for STEM students, for first generation students, and host institution specific scholarships. 
  • Knowledge Exchange International (KEI)
    • KEI offers FGCU students an automatic $1000 grant for semester/year long programs, and a $200 grant for summer programs.
    • FGCU students are also eligible for additional KEI scholarships, information available online.
  • AIFS Abroad  (American Institute for Foreign Study
    • AIFS offers FGCU students an automatic $400 grant for semester programs and a $200 grant for summer programs.
    • FGCU students are also eligible for additional AIFS scholarships, information available online. 
  • CAPA - The Global Education Network
    • CAPA offers FGCU students an automatic $600 grant for semester programs and a $300 grant for summer programs.
    • FGCU students are also eligible for additional CAPA scholarships, information available online. 
  • Council on International Educational Exchange
    • Ambassador grants, access grants, and academic excellence scholarships available online. 
  • International Internships
    • International Internships offers FGCU students an automatic $200 discount on internship programs.
    • There is a $40 discount for FGCU students on the application fee
    • International Internships offers additional scholarships from $100 to $500, information available online.
