Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
SNAP provides supplemental nutrition benefits to help students and families experiencing food insecurity, so they can purchase healthy food and strive for self-sufficiency.
Through The FL Department of Children and Families:
Eligibility:
- Proof of Identity
- Healthy adults 18-50 years old, with no dependents, not working nor in a work training program, may receive SNAP for 3 months in a 3 year period
- Household gross income limit ≤ 200% Federal Poverty Level
- Deductions on household expenses include shelter expenses, dependent care, medical expenses, utilities, and earned income deductions
- Must be a Florida resident
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have qualified noncitizen status
- Must have Social Security Number or proof they applied for one
- Certain individuals must provide child support cooperation
- Most households can have vehicles, bank accounts, and property assets and still qualify for benefits
- Must report when total monthly gross income > 130% Federal Poverty Level per household size within 10 days
- Must report when adult work hours < 80 hours per month within 10 days
Ineligibility:
- College students enrolled at least half time, in some circumstances
- Conviction of drug trafficking
- Fleeing a felony warrant
- Breaking SNAP rules
- Noncitizens without qualified status
