Session Leaders
Rachel Campbell, M.S.
Instructor at Department of Chemistry & Physics, Florida Gulf Coast University
Chemistry Activity Leader
Jeff Hutchinson PhD.
Assistant Professor at Department of Chemistry & Physics, Florida Gulf Coast University
Physics Activity Leader
Dr. Jeff Hutchinson was born and raised in Edmonds, Washington, in the suburbs of Seattle where the verdant mountainous beauty is provided by nearly continuous rain, sometimes literally for months at a time. He graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where he received his B.A. in Physics and he spent his free time studying classical fencing. In 2007 he moved down to Davis, California where he received his Ph.D in Physics from the University of California, Davis, under the mentorship of Dr. Markus Luty. There he found his love for board games and, more importantly, his wife, Emily. In 2014, he moved to Fort Myers, Florida to join the faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University and start a family. Now he spends his free time playing dinosaurs with his 3 year old daughter, Penny, watching his favorite shows with Emily, and playing board games with his friends. He also loves to teach physics and mentor undergraduate researchers simulating dark matter signals at particle colliders.
Ian Campbell, M.S.
Instructor at Department of Chemistry & Physics, Florida Gulf Coast University
Chemistry Activity Leader
Ian S. Campbell is an analytical chemist with emphasis in mass spectrometry. His graduate work focused on method development for detecting low level pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in freshwater systems. His early work at FGCU included work with SW Florida water systems including nutrients in river and estuary waters and residual oil levels from the Deepwater Horizon event in 2010. Since 2013, he has worked as chemistry professor at FGCU.
Puspa Adhikari PhD.
Assistant Professor at Department of Marine & Earth Sciences, Florida Gulf Coast University
Marine Science Activity Leader
Puspa L. Adhikari is an Assistant Professor of Marine Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He received his PhD from Louisiana State University (LSU) studying transport and fates of nutrients and organic pollutants in marine environments. In 2018, Puspa moved to Fort Myers, Florida to join the faculty at The Water School, FGCU. His area of research and teaching interests are in Marine and Environmental Chemistry. During his leisure time, Puspa loves being on water or watching sports, and playing volleyball and basketball. He is a big fan of college football, NBA and NFL.
