IDP Rankings

Each quarter, the RERI gathers data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to calculate the FGCU Industry Diversification Index (IDI).  Using the BLS data, the RERI research team calculates two sets of the IDI -- one using total employment (Total IDI) and one using private employment only (Market IDI). 

• The Total IDI considers all employment in a region (employment from both the public and private sector).
• The Market IDI only considers employment in the private sector. 

Providing two different sets of IDI allows for a side-by-side comparison on how both sectors of the economy affect industrial diversification within a region. The charts below show seasonally-adjusted Total and Market IDI figures for each MSA, Workforce Region and state, going back to the first quarter of 1990.
