On November 22, 2022, FGCU graduating therapy students joined nursing students in the Safety, Mobility, and Musculoskeletal Foundations Lab.
The BSN Foundations Lab students worked in pairs with one graduating therapy student. Additionally, there was one therapy leader student who circulated the room to ensure all expected skills of the lab were covered for the lab session. The therapy students spent 100 minutes with the BSN Nursing Foundations students. The subjects covered were: range of motion exercises, prevention of falls, body mechanics, ergonomic principles, turning and positioning, moving and transferring, gait belt use, canes, walker use, crutches, wheelchair use and mobility, and ambulation.
The BSN Nursing students expressed their confidence in these skills following the interprofessional collaboration with the graduating therapy students. Equally, the graduating therapy students also voiced this was an excellent experience to come to the simulation lab to collaborate with the BSN students.
